Nightstop is a free service which provides emergency short-term accommodation
for 16-25 year olds in the homes of volunteer hosts. There they are provided
with a hot meal, a bed in a room of their own, breakfast the following morning and
the chance to bath/shower or wash clothes.
Greenwich & Lewisham Nightstop is one of over 30 member schemes of
Nightstop UK, a
national charitable organisation which works together with local communities towards
the prevention of youth homelessness. Because ...
"Homeless young people are vulnerable from day one of their homelessness.
This vulnerability leaves them exposed to the risk of further
exploitation through drugs, prostitution and crime. The provision of
emergency accommodation should not be underestimated in providing a place of
safety and security, a 'breathing space' to consider one's personal situation and
an opportunity to talk things through with caring voluntary accommodation
providers. Nightstop is, therefore, about helping some of the most
at risk young people in Britain today."
