The Borough Deans
Ecumenical Borough Deans (EBDs) are unique to London. Each London Borough has a group of Borough Deans whose
main focus is to represent the Christian Church to the Local Authority. There is an annual meeting in Westminster
for all Borough Deans under the auspices of the London Churches Group.
In Greenwich there are currently seven EBDs:
- Pastor Mike Leader, co Pastor at Charlton
& Blackheath Christian Fellowship (representing the Independent Evangelical Churches)
- The Rev'd Martyn Coe, Minister at St Mark's
United Reformed Church, Greenwich (representing the Methodist and URC Churches)
- The Rev'd Colin Davey, Minister at Blackheath
& Charlton Baptist Church (representing the Baptist Church)
- Captain Eileen Halliday, Officer in charge of Plumstead Salvation Army (representing the Salvation Army)
- Pastor Dele Olowofusi, Assistant Pastor at New
Wine Church, Woolwich (representing the Black majority churches)
- The Rev'd Michael Scanlon, Parish Priest at St
Peter's RC Church, Woolwich (representing the Roman Catholic Church)
- The Rev’d Malcolm Torry, Team Rector of East Greenwich Team Ministry (representing the Anglican Church)
EBDs act as in interface between their own Christian communities and the Local Authority. They have regular
meetings with the Mayor of Greenwich, the Leader of the Council and the Chief Executive. Martyn Coe currently
chairs the Greenwich Community Network, which invites representatives from the voluntary sector and faith
groups to work together. Examples of EBD's activity are their key role in planning for emergencies in the
Borough and their involvement in the voluntary multi-faith chaplaincy for the Greenwich Penisula site.
